Fall 1989: Working
Book by Stephen Schwartz and Nina Faso
Music and Lyrics by Stephen Scwartz
"Several years ago, travelling around the country, I came across hundreds of working men and women. Blue collar, white collar -- management, too. They talked, and I listened to their grievances, their hopes, their dreams. In talking about their work, they talked about more than jobs. They talked about a search for daily meaning, as well as daily bread. For recognition, as well as cash. For astonishment, rather than torpor. In short, for a sort of Monday through Friday life, rather than a Monday through Friday void. Perhaps immortality, too, was part of that quest. To be remembered was the wish, spoken and unspoken, of thse unsung heroes and heroines. It is their words you will hear this evening."

Director's Notes
The young performers in this production did more than learn lines and their blocking. They decorated the set. They created their costumes. They developed much of the movement and interpretation. In a sense, they built this show. Drawing on their collective experiences with work and on the words of their characters, they have created -- and are continuing to create -- a celebration of work in America. We hope you enjoy the show. This is our work, and we are proud of it.
~Pam Myers-Morgan, Director, Fall '89
