Spring 1990: Jesus Christ Superstar
Music By: Andrew Lloyd Webber
Lyrics by: Tim Rice
Jesus Christ Superstar is the story of Christ's Passion told in the vernacular. It is an account of the last seven days of Jesus' life, from when he entered Jerusalem to the crucifixion, seen from the point of view of Judas Iscariot and set to a rock soundtrack. It carries the themes of the modern fable - a declining star who was initially idolized, torn apart by his fickle fans. It opened in October of 1971 on Broadway in the Mark Hellinger Theater.
